The University of Pennsylvania is a private Ivy League research university located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school was founded in 1740 and is one of the nine colonial colleges chartered prior to the American Revolution.
Penn is organized into 12 schools, including four undergraduate and eight graduate schools. The university has a strong focus on interdisciplinary studies and research, with more than 150 research centers and institutes.
Some of Penn’s most notable alumni include U.S. Presidents James Buchanan and William Henry Harrison, as well as Benjamin Franklin, who was a trustee of the university. Penn’s faculty have also been quite accomplished, with 37 Nobel laureates having taught at the school.

Applying to Pennsylvania
The admissions process at Pennsylvania is highly selective. For the Class of 2023, only 9% of applicants were admitted.
To apply, students will need to submit an application, along with high school transcripts, SAT or ACT scores, and a personal essay. Letters of recommendation are optional but may be submitted as part of the application.
Admitted students tend to have strong academic records, with an average SAT score above 1400 and an average ACT score above 32.
